As the Phoenix Convention Center prepares to start having meetings and gatherings of thousands of people again, it is seeking to get accredited on outbreak prevention, response and recovery.

The city-owned convention center announced this week it is pursing the Global Biorisk Advisory Council STAR accreditation, which is offered by the International Sanitary Supply Association.

The program is supposed to teach venue-cleaning professionals best practices on how to prepare and respond to infectious diseases and biohazards, such as Covid-19.

“Safety and cleanliness have always been a priority for meeting professionals, and the Phoenix Convention Center has done an excellent job of maintaining its facility over the years to meet these expectations,” Visit Phoenix President and CEO Steve Moore said in a statement.
