Water and wastewater customers in the fast-growing San Tan Valley southeast of Phoenix are now being serviced by a national utility company after it acquired the assets and operations of the previous utility in the area.

Epcor Water Arizona Inc., a subsidiary of Epcor USA Inc., took over from Johnson Utilities LLC, with the final transfer of ownership completed on Jan. 29.

The new service area is now called the San Tan water and wastewater districts, covering 160 square miles and nearly 30,000 water customers and more than 40,000 wastewater customers in Florence, Queen Creek and unincorporated areas of the San Tan Valley in Pinal County.

"We're honored to be part of these vibrant communities where values that are important to Epcor – family and community – are both the foundation and the future. We look forward to being an active community partner and bringing the kind of investment that is essential for job opportunities and the region's strong long-term economic outlook," said Joe Gysel, President of Epcor USA in a statement.
