Honeywell International Inc. has deepened its collaboration with Vertical Aerospace by becoming a supplier for flight deck technologies for the British company’s demonstrator aircraft program.

The partnership was announced after the two companies signed a letter of intent signaling that the Phoenix-based aerospace unit of Honeywell (NYSE: HON) will play a key role in Vertical’s effort to understand flight characteristics, system requirements and the flight deck user interface as it develops its urban air mobility vehicle.

“One of the most important outcomes of this program will be the successful demonstration of simplified vehicle operations, which essentially is about making these aircraft more intuitive and flattening the learning curve to safely fly them,” Stéphane Fymat, vice president and general manager, UAS/UAM, Honeywell Aerospace, said in a statement. “Vertical Aerospace has been a wonderful partner, and we’re excited to be part of its demonstrator aircraft to address this challenge and, in doing so, help move the entire industry forward.”

Honeywell and Vertical have already been working together on Vertical’s demonstration aircraft, with Honeywell providing its Compact Fly-By-Wire System and flight control software as part of a 2019 deal.
