SCOTTSDALE, AZ — The Covid-19 pandemic has forced workers from all over to transition from an office environment to one closer to home, literally. But there's good news in store for Valley residents who find themselves in a work-from-home situation — East Valley residents in particular.

Scottsdale ranked No. 1 and Gilbert ranked No. 4 in the U.S. for remote work in 2021, according to a recent analysis by SmartAsset, a New York City-based personal finance website.

And beyond the top 10, Chandler and Mesa also made the list, landing in 11th and 26th place, respectively.

This marks the third year that SmartAsset has released the study, which it adjusted to account for Covid-19's impact. It added two new metrics this year: the estimated percent of the workforce able to work from home and the percentage of residences with two or more bedrooms. That's in addition to factors including unemployment rate, poverty rate, housing costs as a percentage of earnings, the percentage of the workforce that worked from home in 2019 and the five-year change in percentage of people reporting they work from home.
