Covid-19: Experts assess pandemic's impact on Valley’s holiday shopping season

PHOENIX — The holiday shopping season is the most important time of year for U.S. retailers, and this year is going to be rough for many of them because of the Covid-19 pandemic. Yet things might not be so dire in Arizona, industry experts say.

Admittedly, 2020 has been one of the hardest years for the retail industry in decades. The Covid-19 pandemic has reshaped the retail world, hastening a number of bankruptcies and store closures and increased demand for online shopping.

While things don’t look great for brick-and-mortar retail this holiday season, CBRE Group Inc.'s Phoenix-based First Vice President Todd Folger said Valley retailers will likely fare better than those in other parts of the country.
