American Airlines took another step to assuage travelers wary of getting on a plane any time soon that money already spent won't go to waste.

American Airlines Group Inc. (Nasdaq: AAL) is waiving change fees for travel through Sept. 30 for tickets purchased April 7 or prior. Customers can change their origin and destination cities as part of this offer, though customers will pay any fare difference. Travel must be completed by Dec. 31, 2021.

For new travel purchases, any ticket purchased between March 1 and May 31 isn't subject to change fees.

"This is available for any of American's nonrefundable published fares," American said in a statement.
