Sport Chalet is closing its doors nationwide, including its five Valley locations.

A statement on the sporting goods company's website says the following:

On April 16th, 2016 Sport Chalet began the process of closing all of our stores and stopped selling merchandise online. While our online store is no longer available, all Sport Chalet stores will remain open for several weeks, offering customers the opportunity to use their remaining rewards and gift cards, and to take advantage of great sales.

The company said that gift cards, rewards certificates and store credits will be honored in Sport Chalet stores through April 29, 2016. Customers who cannot use their gift cards by then can transfer balances to a gift card at one of their sister stores, Eastern Mountain Sports and Bob's Stores, through July 29. To do so, you must contact customer service at (888) 801-9162.

This comes after Sport Chalet's parent company announced it filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. In a statement, Vestis Retail Group, LLC, said that it was announcing this "series of steps that will collectively provide a stronger financial foundation for the company." Vestis said it will put more focus on its other companies, which are located in the eastern U.S.

Sport Chalet has 47 stores nationwide, including five in Peoria, Chandler, Scottsdale, Goodyear and north Phoenix.
