You could say Target is bending over backwards to meet the needs of its urban customers.

The company plans to open one of its flexible-format stores near the SR-51 and East Camelback Road in Phoenix.

What exactly does "flexible-format" mean?  It's basically Target modified for city folk: smaller stores smack dab in the center of bustling urban or populated suburban areas with merchandise tailored to the needs shoppers there. The company already has 30 such stores currently operating.

“Target is focused on adding more flexible-format stores across the country to serve more guests, and we look forward to opening our first flexible-format store in Arizona in July 2017. We think guests in Phoenix will enjoy this quick-trip shopping experience with compelling products that only Target can provide,” said Mark Schindele, senior vice president, Properties, Target.

The new store will be approximately 50,000 square feet and will sell apparel, accessories, beauty, home, tech products and groceries.
