This week, the Phoenix Zoo and the Arizona Center for Nature Conservation received a $1 million donation from the Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust.

The news was revealed in a press release written by Derrick Hall, CEO of the Diamondbacks and chair of the Phoenix Zoo’s Pride Campaign.

In it, Hall said, “This grant from The Nina Mason Pulliam Trust will help to create this unique and exciting habitat for two admired and revered species.”

The money donated will go toward a new African lion and spotted hyena habitat along the African Trail.

This new habitat is part of the zoo’s Pride Compaign, which according to their website is, “A plan to secure $12.1 million in philanthropic support to fund major capital projects in four distinct areas. The elements include new or expanded habitats and additional capacity for enhanced wildlife education and conservation efforts.”
