PHOENIX – A man who attended high school in Phoenix, Ariz. blew judges away on the singing competition show ‘The Voice.”

Steve Knill, who attended Apache Junction High School caught the early attention of American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson with his rendition of Up to the Mountain by Patty Griffin.

Clarkson was the only judge who turned around, so Knill joined her team on the show.

“Normally I could be like ‘take a little out because it was so much,’ but like it was so beautiful. Your range is incredible” Clarkson can be heard telling Knill during the taping.

“Your raw material that you’re working with is really great. Congratulations, Steve.”

According to his LinkedIn page, Knill performed at the Phoenix Metropolitan Men’s Chorus from 2012-13.
