PHOENIX – There’s a new celebrity from Arizona and he’s cute and covered in fur.

The producers of the new live-action remake of the classic 1955 animated film Lady and the Tramp went looking for their leading actors in Phoenix.

Meet Monte, the new Disney star. Filmmakers found the two-year-old terrier mix at the HALO Animal Rescue shelter right here in Arizona.

After being rescued from a kill-shelter in New Mexico by the Phoenix shelter last April, Monte now has a new home in Hollywood.

“He had great characteristics that the film industry was looking for,” said Halo outreach manager Erin Denmark. “He knew how to sit, stay and walked well on a leash when he came to HALO.”

The employees at the shelter knew Monte was on his way to fame, but at the time they did not know what movie he would be cast in.

“When they reached out we were kept in the dark, of course, as to what he might appear in. Very hush-hush! We were thrilled to find out he would a star in a very popular film.” said Denmark.

Tramp, the dog Monte will be portraying in the film, is a terrier mix stray just trying to find a break in the world. Sound familiar?

Just like Tramp found a home with Lady (SPOILER ALERT), Monte found a home with Disney.

“His adopters take great care of him and he’s such a great example of what shelter pets can be.”

The canine will be voiced by Justin Theroux with Tessa Thompson playing the beautiful Cocker Spaniel, Lady.

Check out Monte when Lady and the Tramp comes to Disney Plus on Nov. 12.
