TEMPE, AZ — Trader Joe's is opening a second grocery store in Tempe; this time, near Arizona State University.

The grocery chain quietly announced the news in February on its website: "We've consulted our maps and compass and have found a terrific location for a store in ASU, AZ. We'll continue to post new details about the store and its opening here, so please check back for updates."

We reached out to Trader Joe's on Thursday for additional information and have not yet heard back.

It will be located within the Cornerstone shopping center near University Drive and Rural Road and east of Arizona State University's campus, confirmed Kaitlyn Kor, communications coordinator at Big Yam, the company that owns the complex, in an email on Thursday.

She said the grocery store would open in the building that formerly housed Blick Art and FastMed Urgent Care and would occupy 11,000 square feet of space. It is expected to open in June, she said.

FastMed relocated to another space within the plaza.

Trader Joe's has another grocery store in Tempe near Guadalupe Road and McClintock Drive.

In November 2019, Whole Foods opened a 40,000-square-foot grocery store near Ash Avenue and University Drive, near the west side of ASU's campus.
