Take a look: ABC announces 16 new TV shows

New shows are coming to ABC.

ABC Network announced this week a number of new shows set to join its TV lineup for the 2017-2018 season. American Idol will make its return on ABC with Katy Perry as a judge, the show announced during its Upfront Presentation.

Roseanne will also be getting an eight-episode reboot. Shonda Rhimes, the creator of Scandal, Grey's Anatomy and How To Get Away With Murder, will be back with another show, For The People.

THE MAYOR

Courtney Rose (Brandon Michael Hall) is a rapper looking for his big break. He decides to run for mayor of his small town as a publicity stunt. He ends up winning the election and now has to transform his hometown.  

DECEPTION

Superstar magician Cameron Black brings his skills, illusion, and deception to the Federal Bureau of Investigation. 

THE GOOD DOCTOR

Sean Murphy is a resident surgeon who also has autism and savant syndrome. He "uses his extraordinary medical gifts to save lives and challenge the skepticism of his colleagues."

THE GOSPEL OF KEVIN

Kevin Finn is selfish. Headed on the wrong path, he moves back home to stay with his widowed twin sister and niece. That night he meets a celestial being, Yvette, who gives him a chance to save the world.

FOR THE PEOPLE

A new show from Shonda Rhimes (Grey's Anatomy, Scandal, How To Get Away With Murder), For The People is the story about young lawyers trying to make it as they tackle cases at the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.

ALEX, INC

Alex Schuman quits his job as a radio journalist to start his own company. He learns that it isn't as easy as he thought. The show is based off the Podcast StartUp.

SPLITTING UP TOGETHER

Based off the Danish series by the same name, Splitting Up Together tells the story of a couple who reignites their marriage through divorce.

THE CROSSING

"Refugees from a war-torn country seek asylum in a small American fishing town, only the country these people are from is America – and the war they are fleeing hasn’t happened yet."

 

ROSEANNE

Roseanne ended after nine seasons on ABC. The show and its original cast will return to ABC in 2018 for an eight-episode reboot.

TEN DAYS IN THE VALLEY

“Ten Days in the Valley” stars Kyra Sedgwick as Jane Sadler, an overworked television producer and single mother in the middle of a separation whose life is turned upside down when her young daughter goes missing in the middle of the night. Just like her controversial police TV show, everything is a mystery, everyone has a secret and no one can be trusted."

MARVEL'S INHUMANS

“Marvel’s Inhumans” explores the never-before-told epic adventure of the royal family including Black Bolt, the enigmatic, commanding King of the Inhumans, with a voice so powerful that the slightest whisper can destroy a city."

AMERICAN IDOL

The television singing competition that held its farewell season on Fox will return in 2018 on ABC. At the network's Upfront Presentation, ABC confirmed Katy Perry would be a judge on the show.

BOY BAND

ABC is adding another singing competition to its lineup, along with American Idol. Boy Band will look for form the "next great music sensation." Singers will audition for 18 spots to form three bands. As the competition continues, members will be eliminated until five are left -- forming a new boy band. Singer Rita Ora will host, and Nick Carter and Emma Bunton will act as experts.

GREY'S ANATOMY SPIN-OFF

ABC also announced a Grey's Anatomy Spin-Off. The show will focus on the lives of a group of firefighters at a firehouse in Seattle. The show is still being scripted, and an air date has not been announced.

JIMMY KIMMEL, JUSTIN THEROUX PROJECT

The not-yet-titled project will be a live sitcom special, according to a news release. Comedians will act out "classic sitcom scripts" from the 70s, 80s and 90s in front of a live studio audience.

DANCING WITH THE STARS JUNIOR

A spin-off of Dancing With The Stars, celebrity kids and the children of celebrities will be paired up with professional dancers and compete on the dance floor. DWTS Jr. is slated to start spring 2018.

BACHELOR WINTER GAMES

Set to premiere in February 2018, previous bachelor and bachelorette contestants will compete in winter-themed activities.
