PHOENIX — Those looking to up the photos on their social media game -- ahem, Instagram -- have another spot in the Valley to take creative photos, slow-motion videos, and Boomerangs.
People can pretend to run from a T-Rex who is breaking through a wooden door behind them, or become an astronaut floating in outer space, or pose with a large pair of gold wings at Surprise Your Eyes , a 3-D photo art attraction that recently opened at Odysea in the Desert, the entertainment complex on the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community near the Loop 101 and Via de Ventura near Scottsdale.
The attraction was supposed to open on May 18, but was pushed back for four weeks due to construction delays, a spokesperson for the complex said.
After a month (to the day) of delays, "Surprise Your Eyes," a 3-D photo pop-up experience, opened yesterday (Tuesday) at Odysea in the Desert, a spokesperson confirmed. It features 30 photo backgrounds that people can pose with that make it look like you're in the photo. https://t.co/pdriE9iYd4— Josh Frigerio, ABC15 (@JoshFrigerio) June 19, 2019
While photo pop-ups have become popular in recent years, general manager Greg Charbeneau said Surprise Your Eyes is different because it has 30 backdrops and each one was designed to appear as if it were three-dimensional.
"What happens is, guests actually step in front of these paintings. Your friends take a picture of you and when you look at your phone, it looks like your actually inside the photos," he told ABC15 in a recent interview. "It's a ton of fun."
There are yellow dots at each background that instruct where the person being photographed should stand, and where the photographer should stand to capture the effect.
The other backgrounds include one that looks like a classic fighting arcade game, a mythical castle with a fire-breathing dragon, a player catching a football, and a mining car that has stopped just short of a broken track.
Admission is $10-$15 per person, according to the website. They can be purchased online or at the business.
The hours are listed as 9 a.m. - 6 p.m., Sunday - Thursday, and 9 a.m. - 7 p.m., Friday and Saturday.
