PHOENIX — As construction on Epicenter at Agritopia continues to take shape in Gilbert, developers on Tuesday announced the next wave of bars, restaurants, and businesses that are expected to be part of the community and entertainment development when it opens in late 2021 and early 2022.
The newly-announced tenants include:
- UnderTow - A wildly popularly and immersive tiki-inspired cocktail lounge in Phoenix
- Spinato's Pizzeria - A popular pizzeria with locations primarily in the East Valley
- Belly Kitchen & Bar - A Southeast Asian restaurant and bar in Phoenix
- Source - A new fast-casual Mediterranean restaurant
- Raw Organic Juice - A healthy concept with juices, smoothies, health shots, and fruit bowls
They join Matt's Big Breakfast, Gadzooks Enchiladas & Soup, Beer Bar, Peixoto Coffee, Bunky Boutique, Hooligan’s Barbershop, Wylde Hair Salon, and The Fit Collective and Vintage Home, all tenants who were previously announced.
"Our decision to partner with the Johnston family at Epicenter was an easy decision for us—it’s what we refer to as a perfect recipe!” said Anthony Spinato, president and CEO of Spinato's Pizzeria & Family Kitchen, in a prepared statement. "First, there could not have been a better choice for Spinato’s than to partner forces with the Johnston family. Secondly, we were excited and awed to be part of a family of phenomenal local restaurants handpicked by the Johnston’s. And lastly, we had to finally satisfy the many years of requests from so many of our passionate guests who live in the amazing Town of Gilbert.”
Epicenter at Agritopia is the latest development from Joe Johnston -- the restauranteur behind Joe's Farm Grill, Joe's Real BBQ, Barnone -- and his family, who own an 11-acre farm part of the Agritopia neighborhood in Gilbert.
"Our goal is for Gilbert to flourish and for these operators to enjoy great success in the businesses they passionately pursue," Johnston said in a written statement.
When complete, Epicenter will have 320 high-end apartments -- one, two and three-bedroom layouts -- and 49,000 square feet of retail space, which includes the various bars, restaurants, and stores.
Amenities include a demonstration kitchen, resort-style pool, maker's space, and fitness centers. Residents are anticipated to move in sometime during the fall. Restaurants and retailers are expected to open in early 2022.
Rich Furnari and Jason Asher, co-owners of UnderTow and Century Grand, previously told ABC15 that they were looking to grow the brand beyond their single location in Phoenix.
They said the Gilbert location would be similar in size to the Phoenix location, but would not be an exact replica. It would likely feature a different part of the shop. For those who haven't been, UnderTow is an immersive cocktail bar designed to look like the hull of a 19th-century Clipper Ship.
