PHOENIX — Cirque du Soleil is headed back to Arizona in 2020. This time with two shows that have never been performed in Arizona and 16 performances scheduled between Phoenix, Prescott Valley, and Tucson, the company announced earlier this week.
In the spring, Cirque brought its shows, Amaluna, to the parking lot of State Farm Stadium in Glendale, and Corteo to Tucson Arena in Tucson.
The shows coming to Arizona next year are called "OVO" and "AXEL."
OVO is scheduled to be at Talking Stick Resort Arena in downtown Phoenix for six performances between Feb. 20-23, 2020.
AXEL will be at the Findlay Toyota Center in Prescott Valley for four performances between March 19-21, 2020. The show will then travel south to the Tucson Convention Center for another six performance between April 17-19, 2020.
Members of Cirque Du Soleil's fan club, Club Cirque, were able to buy advanced tickets beginning on Oct. 28, 2019. Tickets to the general public go on sale at 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 1 via Cirque's website, www.cirquedusoleil.com. Tickets for both shows start at $44 for adults.
WHAT ARE THE SHOWS ABOUT?
OVO, which means "egg" in Portuguese, is described on Cirque's website as: teeming with life. Insects work, play, fight and look for love in a non-stop riot of energy in motion. Their home is filled with biodiversity, beauty, action and moments of quiet emotion. The awestruck insects are intensely curious when a mysterious egg appears, representing the enigma and cycles of their lives.
It features acrobatics, foot juggling, balancing acts, high-wire acts, and trapeze.
AXEL is one of Cirque's newer shows and brings its circus-style performances to the ice. Here is how it is described on Cirque's website: See sparks fly as Axel falls for the captivating Lei. Together they jet off on a fast-moving quest through fantastic and colorful worlds to retrieve the stolen light from the mystical Vi. Will Axel find his voice and fulfill his destiny?
The show mixes ice skating, acrobatics, music, and projections.
