If you follow a vegetarian or vegan lifestyle or even just opt for plant-based options when you can, eating at theme-park restaurants can pose some serious challenges. With typical menu staples of burgers, chicken nuggets and fries, finding dishes that not only fit into your healthy diet but also taste delicious can seem impossible.
Disney theme parks are changing that by introducing hundreds of new plant-based options that go beyond a simple side salad.
Walt Disney World in Florida launched new menu items during the first week of October at all of its quick-service and table-service restaurants. (Yes, all of them!) Whether you want a quick bite or would rather enjoy a relaxing sit-down meal, you’ll now easily be able to find plant-based options on the menu thanks to an easy-to-spot leaf icon.
“We’re always looking for ways to bring more flavor, innovation, and creativity to the Disney dining experience — and guest feedback is first on the menu when we evolve our menus and develop new dishes,” the Disney Parks blog announced. “Our guests have embraced our plant-based offerings at our parks around the globe, inspiring us to expand our menu and introduce a new menu icon, a green leaf, that will make it easier than ever to find these creations during your visit.”
Disney defines “plant-based” menu items as dishes “made without animal meat, dairy, eggs or honey.” They are made with ingredients from plants, including vegetables, fruits, grains, nuts, seeds and legumes.
Even the iconic Disney Dole Whip float, a pineapple soft-serve dessert swirled on top of refreshing pineapple juice, has gotten the plant-based treatment.
With more than 400 of these new options served around the Walt Disney World resort, those who are looking for plant-based options can choose a range of sweet and savory dishes, including:
Steamed Asian Dumplings—Epcot, Le Cellier Restaurant
Le Cellier Restaurant, located in Epcot’s Canada pavilion in the World Showcase, offers steamed Asian dumplings, filled with plant-based “meat” and served alongside bok choy, Chinese long beans, red peppers and radish in a savory broth.
Chocolate Avocado Mousse—Coronado Springs Resort, Toledo Restaurant
Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort’s newest restaurant, Toledo, has this beautiful dessert on the menu. The Chocolate Avocado Mousse is entirely plant-based and has a strawberry-basil sorbet accompaniment, along with a coconut crumble.
Felucian Garden Spread—Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Docking Bay 7 Food & Cargo Restaurant
If you head over to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, you’ll find this delicious vegan dish. It is made with a plant-based kefta (which is traditionally a meatball), herb hummus, tomato-cucumber relish and pita bread.
Plant-Based Cashew Cheesecake—Disney’s Contemporary Resort, California Grill Restaurant
One of Walt Disney World’s premier restaurants has the perfect plant-based dish to satisfy the sweet tooth! This cashew cheesecake will give you the chance to indulge in a dairy-free version of a decadent cheesecake covered in a dark chocolate ganache. It’s topped with toasted cashews and fresh berries.
