Pedestrian dead after being struck by AZDPS vehicle near Casa Grande

CASA GRANDE — A 39-year-old man is dead after being struck by a DPS vehicle Friday night.

According to DPS officials, an AZDPS vehicle was traveling northbound on SR-387 near milepost 3 when around 9:30 p.m. when, for an unknown reason, “a male pedestrian was walking in the lane of traffic and was struck by the sergeant’s vehicle.”

DPS officials say the pedestrian was fatally struck and pronounced dead at the scene.

The pedestrian has been identified as 39-year-old Jason E. Rangel.

The investigation into the deadly crash is being investigated.

It is unclear how Rangel was struck, or why he was walking in the roadway.

DPS has not released the name of the sergeant involved in the fatal crash.
