Maricopa County residents: Trade in your lawn mower and get $150

The Maricopa County Air Quality Department is offering an incentive for you to ditch your old lawnmower for an electric or battery-powered one.

With their new "Mowing Down Pollution" program, residents in Maricopa County with a gasoline mower can receive a $150 voucher toward a new lawnmower that will reduce pollution. The vouchers are valid at participating Home Depot stores.

The air quality department says in addition to reducing emissions and helping improve air quality, electric and battery-powered mowers are quieter, cleaner and, of course, eliminate the hassle of getting costly fuel.

They say by replacing 2,500 gas mowers, 21 tons of ground-level ozone causing pollution could be avoided.
