A K-9 officer with the Long Beach Police Department in California has died and the department is investigating the possibility that the dog's death was heat-related.
In a tweet on Friday, the Long Beach Police Department said Ozzy's death, the K-9 officer, occurred in a Long Beach Police Department-issued vehicle earlier in August.
Officials tell the Long Beach Post that the death occurred on August 14 and that preliminary results show Ozzy's death to be heat-related.
Both Ozzy and his handler were off-duty at the time of the incident, the tweet said.
A review is underway into the circumstances surrounding Ozzy's death.
