A Chandler police officer has stepped down from his post after being accused of drunk driving.

Authorities say former officer Garrett Dever, 39, was arrested for an extreme DUI on June 17 after crashing into a streetlight in Gilbert.

Garrett resigned from his position just three days later.

Garrett is no stranger to the spotlight.

In 2013, his wife, Jessica Dever-Jakusz, resigned as an officer with the Tempe Police Department after starting a romantic relationship with a drug dealer while she was working undercover.

Dever-Jakusz bought drugs from the man before the pair started their intimate relationship, court paperwork said. During the affair, Garrett allegedly found out and used equipment from his patrol car to look into the suspect.

Chandler Police launched an internal investigation into Garrett but no additional information was provided. Jessica was sentenced to 18-months of probation after pleading guilty to attempt to commit hindering prosecution.

Denver is the son of late Cochise County Sheriff Larry Dever. In 2012, Larry crashed his car and died. According to autopsy reports, Larry tested three times over the legal limit for alcohol when the accident occurred.
