Rain chances for Sunday morning through lunchtime

PHOENIX — Rain is underway in the state of Arizona, and this weekend's storm system could impact outdoor activities across the Valley. As a reminder to stay safe during the storm, Saturday and Sunday will be ABC15 Weather Action Days.

Model estimates indicate the potential for a quarter to a half inch of rain in some Valley neighborhoods this weekend, primarily from Saturday night through Sunday morning.

Up north, the snow level looks to hover between 8,000 and 9,000 feet in elevation, so if we do see snow in Flagstaff, it will be just a few flakes mixed in with the rain.

Winds will pick up a bit, too. Peak gusts will approach 25 mph in the Valley and 35 mph in the high country this weekend. Of course, we could see stronger wind gusts associated with any thunderstorms that move through on Sunday.

The cooler air associated with this storm system will also drop temperatures.

Valley highs plunge into the upper 60s to low 70s by Sunday, with morning lows in the 50s.

This storm is expected to be the first of a series of storms that are set to impact the state through the next week.

The next storm system could move in on Tuesday and Wednesday with even colder air across Arizona and another chance for rain and possible snow as snow levels could be lower.

Early morning lows in the Valley could dip into the upper 40s to low 50s by Wednesday morning.

A third system will track towards use as we near the end of next week with another shot of colder air, rain, and snow.

So, stay tuned to ABC15 and abc15.com for updates as we get closer.
