PHOENIX — Sunday marked Phoenix’s 37th day this year with temperatures hitting 110 degrees or higher. But some relief is finally on the way.
An Extreme Heat Warning remains in effect through 8 p.m. Sunday. After that, temperatures are expected to drop as monsoon moisture surges and storm chances increase heading into the workweek.
An Ozone High Pollution Advisory is also in effect through Sunday, with hazy skies possible tonight due to dust from nearby storms.
Starting Monday, storm chances climb significantly — especially for the Phoenix metro area by Monday night.
Storms could move into the Valley as early as 6 to 8 p.m. and linger into the overnight hours. The main threats include wind gusts over 40 mph, blowing dust, flash flooding in low-lying areas, and frequent lightning.
With the storms and added moisture, temperatures will fall. Monday’s high is forecast around 105 degrees, which is near average for this time of year.
Tuesday brings an even bigger cooldown, with highs possibly staying below 100 — along with another chance for monsoon storms. However, leftover cloud cover from Monday night could impact storm development.
Storm chances taper off by midweek as drier air moves in, and temperatures gradually return to near-normal by the weekend.
