PHOENIX — Monsoon storms on Sunday were once again mostly confined to higher elevations and remained very isolated in nature. As drier air aloft moves into the region, rain chances are expected to drop significantly this week, except in the White Mountains.

By Monday, most areas will see sunny and more stable conditions as high pressure builds in. Afternoon temperatures will rise to near normal, around 104 degrees.

Although storm chances will be limited due to the drier air, humidity will remain high. A noticeable drop in humidity is not expected until Friday or Saturday.

Midweek, a low-pressure system moving toward the California coast is forecast to weaken the high-pressure ridge over Arizona as it shifts east. This pattern could trigger a few storms in the White Mountains, but most of the state will remain dry. Windy conditions are likely, with gusts in the high country reaching up to 40 mph.

These westerly winds will also bring in drier surface air, offering some relief from the humidity and helping to lower temperatures. By the weekend, morning lows could dip into the mid- to lower 70s, with some rural areas possibly seeing temperatures in the 60s. Afternoon highs are expected to fall into the 90s.
