PHOENIX — Improvement projects will require closures or lane restrictions along Phoenix-area freeways this weekend (Oct. 4-7), according to the Arizona Department of Transportation. Drivers should allow extra travel time, consider alternate routes and focus on safe driving while the following restrictions are in place:

  • Eastbound Interstate 10 closed between 67th and 43rd avenues in west Phoenix from 9 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Monday (Oct. 7) for paving as part of Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway interchange project. Eastbound I-10 on-ramps at 91st, 83rd, 79th and 75th avenues also closed.
  • DETOUR: Expect heavy traffic and delays. Alternate routes include northbound and eastbound Loop 101 (Agua Fria Freeway) in the West Valley. Consider exiting eastbound I-10 ahead of the closure and using McDowell Road or Van Buren Street as local detour routes.
  • Westbound Interstate 10 narrowed to two lanes between the I-17 “Stack” interchange and 43rd Avenue from 8 p.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Monday (Oct. 7) for paving as part of freeway widening project. Northbound I-17 ramp to westbound I-10 narrowed to one lane. Westbound I-10 on-ramp at 27th Avenue closed.
  • DETOUR: Allow extra travel time and consider alternate routes, including westbound and southbound Loop 101 in the West Valley. Note: Westbound I-10 also narrowed to three lanes between 43rd and 59th avenues from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday (Oct. 6) for paving.
  • Grand Avenue (US 60) closed in both directions between Dysart Road and Loop 303 in the northwest Valley from 11:30 p.m. Saturday to 4 p.m. Sunday (Oct. 6) for pavement sealing work. R.H. Johnson Boulevard, Reems Road and Dysart Road will be restricted but open for cross traffic at Grand Avenue. The Bell Road Bridge also will be open at Grand Avenue (with ramp closures).
  • DETOUR: Detour routes will include Loop 303, Bell Road, Greenway Road and El Mirage Road.
  • Northbound Interstate 17 narrowed to one lane overnight near Happy Valley Road from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday and Monday nights (Oct. 6-7) for interchange reconstruction project. Please allow extra travel time and be prepared to slow down and merge safely in work zones. DETOUR: Alternate routes include northbound 19th Avenue to westbound Jomax Road to travel beyond restriction.
  • Loop 303 closed intermittently in both directions near Lake Pleasant Parkway from 9 p.m. Saturday to 9 a.m. Sunday (Oct. 6) for APS utility line work. Loop 303 closed up to 15 minutes each time. Eastbound Loop 303 on-ramp and westbound off-ramp at Lake Pleasant Parkway also closed as needed.
  • DETOUR: Drivers should allow extra travel time or consider alternate routes, including Happy Valley Parkway or State Route 74.
  • Northbound Loop 101 (Price Freeway) narrowed to two lanes overnight between Chandler Boulevard and Ray Road from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Friday and Saturday nights (Oct. 4-5) and from 9 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday (Oct. 7) for freeway widening project. Note: Northbound Loop 101 on-ramp at Chandler Boulevard closed from 10 p.m. Friday to 4 p.m. Saturday (Oct. 5) and from 10 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday (Oct. 7). Expect other ramp closures in areas between US 60 and Chandler Boulevard over the weekend.
  • DETOUR: Please use caution in work zones. Plan on using frontage roads and other nearby ramps while ramp closures are in place.
  • Grand Avenue (US 60) narrowed to one lane at night in areas between 83rd and 27th avenues from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday through Thursday nights for pavement maintenance. Work is scheduled to start along eastbound Grand Avenue at 83rd Avenue Sunday night (Oct. 6) and focus on two-mile segments each night through late October.
