APACHE JUNCTION, AZ — Two people have died after a collision on U.S. Route 60 near Meridian Road Friday night.
Officials with the Arizona Department of Public Safety say the crash occurred around 10:25 p.m. in Apache Junction.
A Chevrolet truck drifted off right for an unknown reason and collided with a motorcyclist. DPS troopers say the motorcyclist was able to gain control and come to a stop without being injured.
The truck continued off right and crashed into the base of the Meridian Road Bridge. Troopers say two people were ejected from the truck which caught on fire during the collision.
The two people were confirmed dead on the scene and the US60 freeway was closed on the eastbound side for several hours.
Authorities identified the two people who died in the crash as Bruce Godard, 54, of Mesa and Debi Sickles, 52, of Mesa.
