Sun Devils destroy Utah, set up showdown with USC next weekend

Posted

The Arizona State Sun Devils proved last weekend's incredible defensive performance against then-No. 5 Washington was no fluke in their 30-10 stomping of Utah in Salt Lake City on Saturday.

ASU's defense caused four Utah turnovers and didn't yield a touchdown until the fourth quarter as the Devils moved to 4-3 overall and 3-1 in the Pac-12, setting up a showdown with No. 11 USC in Tempe next weekend for first place in the South division.

The Sun Devils picked off Utah quarterback Tyler Huntley four times, including a 20-yard INT return for a touchdown by Jay Jay Wilson, who was recently converted from offense to defense, in the fourth quarter to put the game away.

ASU held Utah to 265 yards of total offense, including 110 rushing yards. Meanwhile, ASU running backs Demario Richard and Kalen Ballage combined for 168 yards on 32 carries, and quarterback Manny Wilkins scored on a 1-yard run in the third quarter.

ASU announced next Saturday's game against USC next Saturday will be a "Stripeout."
