Former Phoenix Suns forward Cliff Robinson is getting into the marijuana business.
Robinson, who spent most of his NBA career with the Portland Trail Blazers, is set to open a cannabis shop in Portland under the name Uncle Spliffy, according to KOIN in Portland. Medical and recreational marijuana is legal in Oregon.
The 49-year-old Robinson told KOIN he smoked marijuana during his playing days, even though doing so is against NBA rules. He said he's a long-time marijuana advocate and believes the NBA should use cannabis as a form of pain treatment for its players.
“(It’s) calming, calm my stomach, calm my nerves, so from that standpoint I see a lot of positives," Robinson told KOIN.
“I think we definitely have to continue looking into cannabis and the benefits that it has, the health benefits that it has, because I think it’s come leaps and bounds."
Robinson, who played for the Suns from 1997-2001, is also set to be the featured speaker at the Cannabis Collaborative Conference in Portland next month.
