Arizona Wildcats defensive coordinator and linebackers coach Jeff Casteel will not return to the team next season, the university announced Monday.
Head coach Rich Rodriguez brought Casteel on board when Rodriguez became Arizona's head coach in 2012. Casteel had previously coached under Rodriguez at West Virginia.
Arizona's defense took a significant step back in the 2015 season thanks in part to key injuries, including All-American linebacker Scooby Wright, who missed most of the season.
The Wildcats also announced Monday that defensive line coach Bill Kirelawich has been released. Casteel and Kirelawich are the second and third defensive assistants UA has let go during the offseason; cornerbacks coach David Lockwood was fired in late December.
