With just three days remaining until Opening Day and just moments after they wrapped up their Cactus League calendar, the Arizona Diamondbacks announced the demotion of Tuffy Gosewisch.

The catcher and former Arizona State Sun Devils standout was optioned to Triple-A Reno on Friday, the D-backs announced.

The 32-year-old Gosewisch opened last season as the team's starting catcher and hit .211 with six doubles and 13 RBI in 38 games before suffering a season-ending ACL injury. He batted .143 in 16 Cactus League games in March.

Gosewisch is a Scottsdale native. He attended Horizon High School before playing at ASU from 2002-05.

His demotion leaves the D-backs with 31 players on their major league roster, meaning the team will need to make six more moves before Opening Day. The D-backs have until 9 a.m Arizona time on Sunday to do so.
