Just one week after they promoted him from the practice squad to the main roster, the Arizona Cardinals released running back Kerwynn Williams, the team announced Tuesday.

Williams was signed last week to add depth to the Cardinals' backfield in the absence of injured starter Andre Ellington. The 24-year-old Williams had just one carry for three yards in Sunday's win at the Chicago Bears.

The Cardinals signed Williams late last season after Ellington suffered a season-ending injury. Williams rushed for 246 yards on 53 carries in five games last year.

Also on Tuesday, the Cardinals signed running back Mike Gillislee to their practice squad, and they released tight end Brandon Bostick and guard Anthony Steen from the practice squad.
