PHOENIX Miss Dessert in Mesa will make you rethink everything you know about pancakes. The shop offers authentic Hong Kong-style desserts with a twist from boba drinks to mango pancakes.

Owner Harry Yu opened the first Miss Dessert in Houston in 2013. He missed Hong Kong cuisine after moving to the U.S. for school in 2011. Fast forward and Harry’s opened multiple locations across the U.S. with more to come.

Now, about those pancakes. Miss Dessert’s version of pancakes is a thin crepe wrapped around a piece of fresh mango and whipped cream. They’re so light, I could eat five at a time.

Another favorite is Harry’s take on sugo, which is traditionally a bowl of tapioca plus toppings. I suggest ordering D1, which is vanilla slush topped with coconut nectar, boba and fresh fruit.

If you’re feeling adventurous, try Miss Dessert’s cheese tea. It’s not as scary as it sounds. It’s a refreshing sweet drink topped with a cream cheese custard.

Try it for yourself. Miss Dessert is open Monday through Sunday. Find their full hours online
