The U.S. Department of Transportation has announced they will be committing $100 million to Valley Metro.
In a tweet by President Donald Trump, the $100 million will be allocated to extending the light rail by 5.5-miles, adding nine additional stations.
The extension is meant to connect areas that are underserved to churches, emergency services and others they otherwise might not have had access to.

According to The Federal Transit Administration, back in July 2019, Arizona was given $100 million in FY 2019 CIG funds to expand the light rail from downtown Phoenix to the South Mountain Village Core.
Last year's project was also a 5.5-mile light rail extension.
