BLACK CANYON CITY, AZ — A small plane landed on Interstate 17 near Sunset Point, north of the Valley, Wednesday evening.
The plane, a single-engine Cessna 172, landed in a pull-out area on the shoulder along the highway. It did not appear to be damaged, according to a photo shared by the Arizona Department of Transportation.
The FAA says the pilot was the only person on board when the plane reportedly started to experience engine issues, forcing the emergency landing in the southbound direction of I-17 around 5:40 p.m.
The pilot was unharmed during the incident.
Aviation officials will continue to investigate, according to the FAA.
No lanes of I-17 were blocked as a result of the landing.
