Shaw Fire in Cochise County continues to grow; reaches 15-20 acres

UPDATE (3:34 p.m.): The Shaw Fire is now between 15 and 20 acres, according to a social media post from Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management.

Four air tankers are working the fire, assisting ground resources, including an Arizona Forestry hand crew and engines, the post said.

Additional resources requested have been expanded to a hotshot crew, two Large Air Tankers, Air Attack and one helicopter.

UPDATE (3:17 p.m.): According to the Coronado National Forest Facebook page, the fire is now at 8 acres.

The post said the fire began on private property and has now entered the forest.

"Direct extinguishment strategies are being utilized to stop the spread of the wildfire and protect homes and infrastructure," the post said.

The Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management is reporting the start of a new fire, the Shaw Fire, northeast of Cochise Stronghold, west of Sunsites in Cochise County.

According to the department's Facebook page, resources are working along the north and south flanks of the fire, which is estimated at 2 acres. It is moving through grass and brush.

According to the Cochise County Sheriff's Facebook page, evacuations are in effect for Cochise Stronghold west of Halfmoon Ranch, including Cochise Stronghold Campground; all trails in East and West Stronghold, including Cochise Trail, and Middlemarch Canyon Trail.

Resources being requested include a state hand crew, air attack, large air tankers and a helo, the post said.
