Arizona State Representative Lorenzo Sierra has been hospitalized with coronavirus.

The Arizona House Democrats said Monday morning Sierra was admitted to the hospital Sunday night in Washington D.C. He has since been taken to The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Maryland and is said to be intubated and "resting comfortably" in the Intensive Care Unit.

Sierra represents Legislative District 19 and lives in Avondale.

Sierra's wife, Rhonda Cagle, was also with him in Washington D.C. and both exhibited symptoms. Cagle is "recovering well and remains in the District with family."

Prior to their travels, the Arizona House Democrats say both tested negative for coronavirus and despite precautions, somehow became infected.

"The family appreciates the prayers and good wishes of all Arizonans and asks for privacy during this difficult time," the House Democrats say on their behalf.

Both will remain in the Mid-Atlantic region while Sierra gets treatment.
