The legislative session has officially come to an end as Governor Doug Ducey signed into law 374 laws and vetoed 14.
The last 25 bills were signed on Thursday. Ducey signed Senate Bill 1248 last. The measure blocks cities from regulating the sale of commercially bred dogs and cats in pet stores.
The proposal requires pet stores to display the name of the animal's breeder. It also sets standards for allowing commercial breeders to sell their animals in pet stores and would add penalties for pet stores that violate the new rules.
The bill undermines ordinances in Phoenix and Tempe as well as a proposed ordinance in Tucson that requires pet stores only sell rescue and shelter animals in an effort to prevent the sale of animals from puppy mills.
