This Staycation Deal of the Day takes you to a resort in Phoenix that is rich in history and culture! Welcome to the iconic Arizona Biltmore, a Waldorf Astoria Resort, built in 1929!
THE HISTORY:
Director of Marketing Communications official Marcy Edwards told us the resort is celebrating its 90th year. There's so much history, and that's why they offer two history tours. One is complimentary to guests and $10 for visitors, and the other is a Happy Hour History Tour, ranging from $12 per child to $25 per adult. The Happy Hour History Tour offers two specialty cocktails that have significance to the property. Last year, the staff told us the Tequila Sunrise was originally created at the resort, and the Catalina Spritzer was Marilyn Monroe's favorite cocktail to sip on by the resort's Catalina Pool. History Tour Director Rob Razavi has been revealing fun facts there for 12 years. He tells you all about the Old Hollywood glamour and events happening today. He took us into the "Mystery Room", where during prohibition, men would sneak in to drink alcohol and smoke cigars. He also showed us the Biltmore Block that is inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright and described as, "a variation on a textile block first used by Wright to construct private homes. The pre-cast blocks were made from desert sand on-site and created in 34 different geometric patterns inspired by the trunk of a palm tree." The Biltmore Block is all over the property.
The Biltmore Block is also the inspiration to the name of their summer event through Labor Day, called the Biltmore Block Party! There are all kinds of activities for adults and kids! Enjoy 39 acres of fun, including Lawn Chess, Jenga, Cornhole, 18-hole Championship Putting Course, Croquet, weekend poolside parties, the 92-foot water slide, dive-in movies on Friday and Saturday nights at Paradise Pool, luxury cabanas, spa specials, award-winning dining, signature cocktails and the History Tour.
You'll also find a painting of Marilyn Monroe by the pool. She was one of the resort's favorite frequent guests. She's posing right next to a sign that says, "Before I turn 90, I want to...", and there are blank lines and chalk for you to fill in. Think of it as a bucket list. I wrote, "Become a Smart Shopper".
