Memorial Day Weekend is here, and Wallet Hub projects that 45.5 percent of Americans are "likely" to take advantage of Memorial Day deals.
Shoppers can expect 20-80 percent off on home goods and spring clothing, and over 40 freebies and special discounts are available to veterans and military personnel. I'm going to break down all the ways you can save!
SAVE BY SHOPPING CATEGORY:
According to DealNews, the good items to look into will be patio furniture (some up to 70 percent off), grills (though the best sales are closer to Labor Day), clothing in general (some up to 80 percent off), shoes (some up to 50 percent off), and the biggest buy - mattresses! Lowe's sent over information that there will be discounts on select Dyson vacuums, up to $100 off. There, you'll also find up to 40 percent off select appliances. I saw one refrigerator originally priced at $1,999 being offered for $1,099, saving you $900. There were also other buy-one-get-one free deals.
No matter where you shop, mention that if you are a military member or veteran, and ask if they offer discounts or freebies.
SAVE ON BUYING A CAR:
Now, let's talk cars. I checked with Bankrate, Kelley Blue Book and U.S. News, and all three offered insight to specific days of the week and month to buy. They also note that Memorial Day Weekend is a great time to shop and save.

SAVE ON BASEBALL:
If you love baseball, there's a D-backs Summer Pass! Pay $99 and go to all 57 home games from May 31 to September 29. That's like spending around $2 each game. You must have a cell phone to get the pass.
SAVE ON PET ADOPTIONS:
All four locations for Arizona Humane Society are offering 50 percent off adoption prices for cats and kittens now through Sunday. It would normally cost between $50 to $150. Click here for more information.
SAVE AT THE MOVIES:
Pollack Tempe Cinemas is bringing back its "Summer Movie Club", where people four years and older can see 10 kid-friendly movies for $5. That breaks down to $.50 per movie! You can see one movie a week starting Memorial Day, May 27, through August 2. If that doesn't interest you, regular movie tickets are $3.50 and on Tuesdays, they are $2.50. Click here for more.
Harkins Theatres also has a summer movie program, showing ten kid-friendly movies for ten weeks. It starts Memorial Day. A season pass is $7, and individual movies are $2. The movies will be screened at 9:45 a.m. each day. Click here to learn more about the lineup and general information.

At Spinelli's Pizzeria, enter the promo code, "MD19" and get the following deals. "The Spinelli's Meal" gets you one, ready-made pizza slice, one fountain soda and one fried Oreo for $7. Brat Haus is offering active duty military and veterans their choice of a free pretzel or a small order of fries, plus 15 percent off the entire order on Memorial Day.
Twin Peaks is offering a free dish from their special Memorial Day menu to all active military and veterans on Monday, May 27. The menu includes:
- Beer battered chicken tenders served with French fries and poblano honey mustard
- Ol’ Fashioned B.L.T sandwich with hickory smoked bacon served on potato bread with French fries
- Cheeseburger stacked with lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, caramelized onions and served with French fries
