TOLLESON, AZ — A woman has been taken to the hospital in critical condition after reportedly crashing her car into a canal early Saturday.

According to the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office, the incident happened near the Agua Fria River and Indian School Road around 5 a.m.

MCSO say the vehicle rolled and landed on its roof, in knee-deep water in the canal.

The woman was awake and alert during extrication efforts by firefighters.

What led up to the crash is still being investigated. The woman’s age has not been released.

She was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
