Police say two women found fatally shot inside a Surprise home were murdered and the search continues for a suspect in the case.
Officers making a welfare check at the residence at the request of an out-of-state family member found the bodies Tuesday night.
Police identified one of the victims Wednesday as the home's owner, 70-year-old Barbara Leslie.
The other woman also has been identified, but police are withholding the name until more of her relatives can be notified.
At a news conference Thursday, police confirmed that Leslie's car, a red 2012 Buick Enclave, had been stolen from the woman's garage and apparently was left at a Phoenix-area apartment complex.
Police say they didn't release that information earlier because they had the car under surveillance and hoped it would lead them to a possible suspect.
Police are asking anyone who may have seen the stolen car on Monday, February 8 in the early morning hours to contact the Surprise Police Department at (623) 222-TIPS. Tips can also be emailed to crimetips@surpriseaz.gov. Anonymous information can also be left by calling Silent Witness at (480) WITNESS.
