Maricopa County Sheriff's Office says a man was booked into jail after he allegedly shot his wife in Sun City.

Officials responded to the home near the Loop 303 and El Mirage Road after noon Sunday in response to a shooting call.

MCSO says a man, identified as Karl Lepak, was jailed for shooting his wife after an argument.

The woman was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. She is still in critical condition as of Monday morning, MCSO says.

According to court documents, Lepak also told police he hit his wife in the back of the head with a metal water bottle because "her face was beautiful."

Lepak was booked on three counts of aggravated assault.

No further information was released.
