Peoria Police say a 17-year-old girl walking to work was able to fight off an attacker and provided a description that helped officers catch him.

The incident occurred near 75th Avenue and West Mountain View Road (north of Hatcher Road) around 5 a.m. on Tuesday. The teen was reportedly headed to work when a man on a bike came up behind her, grabbed her by the neck, pressed something to her head and tried to choke her.

The teen fought back for under a minute before she got away and called 911 from her cell phone.

The victim provided a description of the man who fled on his bike and police located him a few blocks away. She positively identified him as 31-year-old Jacob Naranjo of Glendale. In his possession was a pair of garden clippers that he may have used against her head.

Naranjo was booked into jail on kidnapping and aggravated assault charges.

Fortunately, the victim suffered no physical injuries.
