Authorities have boosted a reward to $7,500 for information surrounding the shooting deaths of three wild burros near Lake Pleasant in May.

The Humane Society of the United States and Humane Society Wildlife Land Trust are offering up to $5,000 for information leading to the identification, arrest and conviction of those responsible for the deaths.

That's in addition to the $2,500 reward previously offered by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management, which is investigating the case.

The BLM's investigation has determined that one burro had been shot in the stomach while the other two were shot in the head in the Morgan City Wash south of Lake Pleasant.

Burros are protected by a 1971 law. If caught, the shooter faces up to a year in prison and a $2,000 fine.
