Authorities say a man died after falling into Lake Pleasant Monday night.

Maricopa County Sheriff's officials say 24-year-old William Ward of Phoenix fell off a 40- to 50-foot cliff  and into the water while circling a campfire. He was reportedly "extremely intoxicated" at the time.

A boater at the lake took Ward to the Four Lane boat ramp where his brother and the boat operator performed CPR. He was pronounced dead on scene by Peoria Fire officials.

The investigation is ongoing and officials are trying to determine whether Ward's cause of death was drowning or fall trauma.

Ward was reportedly visiting Lake Pleasant with friends and family at the time of the incident. No foul play is suspected.
