Cars belong on the road not dogs, and that's why several Good Samaritans and an MCSO lieutenant helped rescue a brown dog that was seen on a Valley freeway.

According to the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office, a lieutenant was approaching what he thought was a collision causing a road blockage on Interstate 10. The lieutenant exited his vehicle, and saw that a dog was roaming the road.

Several individuals reached out to ABC15 and said the dog was seen on I-10 and was rescued just west of Estrella Parkway.

A photograph shared with ABC15 also shows cars stopped along the freeway with at least two individuals trying to capture the dog. A viewer told ABC15 that several drivers tried to block in the animal with their own cars.

MCSO says the responding lieutenant helped remove the dog from the freeway and brought the pooch to safety. The dog was not injured during the incident, and it's not clear how the dog ended up on the freeway.
