A Goodyear school is getting much-needed renovations after a major donation from Shea Homes.

Friday, nuns were in hard hats and kids held tiny shovels--all to celebrate the ground breaking at St. John Vianney School.

Shea Homes is donating $6.4 million for renovations that include an indoor gym, 10 new classrooms, and other projects.

One student said she’s grateful because her school is like her second home.

“It’s so amazing because we’ve been waiting for this so long. It means so much because now the little kids--I’m having some family coming (to the school), and I’m so excited to see what they get to do in school," said Gabriella Esquivel, who is in the 8th grade.

Construction on the indoor gym is scheduled to begin Monday.
