Fugitive Friday

ABC15 is “Taking Action” to make our community safer. Each week we highlight a new fugitive from justice that needs to be taken off the streets.

Wanted: Ervin Mendoza

Charges: Murder

On Sunday, July 12, 2015, Glendale police got a report of gunfire around 9 p.m. from an area near 67th Avenue and Georgia, just north of Camelback Road. When Glendale police arrived, they found 25-year-old Damon Brandon Yazziehad been shot several times. The Chinle, Ariz. man was treated by the Glendale Fire Department, but firefighters could not save him.

Detectives determined Yazzie came across Mendoza and a girl who got on a bus earlier that night. The bus took them along 67th Avenue to Camelback Road where the route ended and everyone had to get off. They got off the bus around 8:30 p.m. and walked northbound along 67th Avenue.

Yazzie was talking with the girl and later, as they walked near Missouri Avenue, Mendoza came into the picture.

The next thing we know is that Yazzie and Mendoza were seen running south from that location into a neighborhood. Moments later, Yazzie was shot and killed.

Mendoza and the girl were last seen running away from the scene together just north of the Don Mensendick School at 67th Avenue and Missouri.
