Police investigating drive-by shooting in Avondale that injured one; suspect arrested

The Avondale Police Department is investigating a drive-by shooting near El Mirage and Lower Buckeye roads that happened early Wednesday morning.

One man was found shot around 3:45 a.m. in the front yard of a home. The victim has since been taken to the hospital where surgery was immediately started. The man is currently in critical condition. 

Police were able to detain a person of interest and later arrested 61-year-old Jesus Castellanos in connection with the shooting. There are no outstanding suspects at the time, police said. 

Castellanos was charged with one count of attempted first-degree murder. 

Police are still investigating a motive for the shooting.
