Man dead, woman hurt after shooting in Avondale

A police investigation is underway after a shooting in Avondale left a man dead and a woman hurt Sunday morning. 

Around 2:30 a.m., Avondale police responded to reports of a shooting in a parking lot near Indian School and El Mirage roads. 

According to police, an altercation between two groups led to multiple shots being fired. 

Police say they believe only one of the groups fired shots. 

An adult man was pronounced dead following the shooting and a woman suffered non-life-threatening injuries, according to police. 

Police say a person of interest in the incident is described as an African American man who was driving a maroon/burgundy Dodge Challenger. 

The vehicle is described as the newer model and having black specialized rims.
